The Topeka Rowing Association is open to everyone. We charge an annual and seasonal fees for membership which allows you to row any number of boats. We are located in the boathouse at the west end of Tinman Circle which is on the east side of Lake Shawnee, just south of the baseball diamonds and swimming area.


RULES AND REGULATIONS

____1. I shall make my swimming proficiency (or lack thereof) known to the person in charge while I am on the water.

____2. My membership and usage of Topeka Rowing facilities and equipment is contingent upon the Topeka Rowing Treasurer having received my dues as defined in the Membership Policiy.

____3. The removal of equipment from the Lake Shawnee area and/or the usage of borrowed equipment at any event must have verbal approval from at least two (2) TRA board members.

____4. My acceptance for membership in Topeka Rowing shall be subject to approval by the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors reserves the right to revoke membership privileges of any member who is financially in arrears or it deems to have caused damage, injury or discredit to members, equipment and/or the good name of the TRA.

____5. The Applicant realizes that Topeka Rowing Association is a not for profit corporation and agrees to help on at least one fund-raiser annually.

____6. The Applicant agrees to be present and assist in quarterly scheduled cleanup days.

____7. the applicant agrees to hold harmless the Topeka Rowing Association and any of its members from any legal action stemming from unintentional acts by those members of Topeka Rowing Association.

____8. Topeka Rowing is a drup and alcohol free environment. Violation of this fact could result in revocation of membership.

____9. The Applicant, by his/her signature, has read this entire application document and understands the rules, regulations, and expectations of TRA and agrees to abide by such.

TOPEKA ROWING ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP EXPECTATIONS

Private shells will be allowed in the boathouse (space providing):
- - Member in good standing.
- - Completion of a request form and approval from the Board.
- - Rows at least 25,000 meters per year as recorded in the log book.
- - Pays the rack space fee of $10 (rev. Feb 03) per month per seat, payable on November 1 and May 1. Rack space fee is waived if private equipment is used for association activity.

Failure to have paid rack fees by above dates will be viewed as releasing private equipment for association usage from that date forward.


The Topeka Rowing Association (TRA) is governed by an elected board of directors which is responsible for the management of association equipment, membership, and activities. Scheduled regular meetings of the board of directors are posted at the boathouse and members are encouraged to attend these meetings to present issues, concerns, and recommendations.

BOATHOUSE RULES

-- Members must be in good standing to use equipment and facilities of Topeka Rowing.

-- Members must sign the log book for all equipment usage: Before launching enter your name, boat used (name of boat), when launched, and rowing location (north cove [400m course], south cove, 2k course [main part of lake], or specify). After docking enter time returned to boathouse.

-- Official Traffic Pattern is "Right Hand Rule". You will always be to the right of oncomming traffic. Keep closest to the shore on your starboard side.

-- You are responsible for your own steering. Bowpeople and scullers check your heading every 5 to 10 strokes.

-- All members will abide by rules of Shawnee County Parks & Recreation.

-- No rowing on the lake will commence until a safety launch is present on the water and when the water temperature is above 40 degrees (Fahrenheit).

-- Rowing without a safety launch is only permitted by members 18 years of age or older, after signing a release waiver, and if the water temperature is above 50 degrees (Fahrenheit).

-- No smoking in the boathouse or around the athletes, members, or guests.

-- Silence Please, while someone is handling a boat.

-- Always enter the boathouse with a smile expecting improvement.

Boathouse Location

Lake Shawnee is located southwest of east 29th street and Croco Road in Topeka, Kansas, USA. Our phone number at the boathouse is 266-3939.

General Practice Schedule

During the summer, we have daily practice sessions during the week at 5:30am and 5:30pm. There are also rowing sessions at 5:30am and 8:30am on Saturday.

During the winter (school months) we have one practice session Monday thru Thurday starting at 3:30pm. We also have Saturday morning practice/rowing at 8:30am.

Members have access to the boathouse and facilities seven (7) days a week, every week of the year.
